MEMORANDUM

Posted: January 7, 2015 02:30 PM
From: Representative Kevin J. Schreiber
To: All House members
Subject: Designating the Month of April 2015 as "Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Month" in Pennsylvania

In the near future, I will be introducing a resolution designating the month of April 2015 as "Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Month" in Pennsylvania.

Animal welfare in the United States changed forever in 1866 when the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) was founded by animal rights activist Henry Bergh. The ASPCA protects and assists animals in need and promotes their humane care and treatment. Furthermore, the ASPCA has fought for landmark anti-cruelty laws and worked diligently to ensure their enforcement, as well as support local communities in their fights against cruelty.

The ASPCA celebrates its many victories on behalf of animals each April. As part of "Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Month," animal lovers and pets are encouraged to wear orange, the official ASPCA color. ASPCA supporters can register event plans and find and share suggestions on how to "Go Orange for Animals" online at www.aspcaapril.org or at their Facebook page, www.facebook.com/aspca.

I hope you will join me in showing your support for this seminal organization and its cause by co-sponsoring this resolution.
