MEMORANDUM

Posted: December 23, 2014 02:20 PM
From: Representative Will Tallman
To: All House members
Subject: Close Casinos between 2AM-6AM (Prior HB 345)

In the near future, I plan on reintroducing legislation (formally HB 345) that will amend the Gaming Act to close casinos from the hours of 2 a.m. to 6 a.m.

This bill has been proposed several times in the past and has garnered support, but has never been voted on by committee or even as an amendment to gambling bills on the floor.

I propose this legislation to help our problem gamblers take a step back for a few hours from playing slot machines and table games and understand their addiction. By just closing for these few hours, we may be able to help a few individuals from going over the limits with gambling.

As a side note, the hours recommended for closing the casinos are also the hours that bars are required to close daily. It is interesting to note that the bars inside the casino must close from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m., so this legislation would be in line with that current practice.
