Subject: | Credit Report Agency Act |
In the near future, I will be introducing legislation that is vital in our efforts for providing protections to consumers across the Commonwealth. We currently live in a society that heavily relies on recent technological advancements in order to accomplish most everyday tasks. While these advancements have simplified most tasks, ample safeguards are needed in order to protect the transmission of sensitive information from one party to another. With this in mind, I am introducing legislation that will allow an individual consumer to place a permanent freeze on their consumer report so that the report may only be viewed by credit reporting agencies, fraud prevention agencies and law enforcement agencies. Stopping identity theft is a task that we should not take lightly and strengthening our consumer protection laws is a task that is always a priority of the General Assembly. I am confident that my legislation provides much needed safeguards as it relates to consumer reports while simultaneously strengthening the Commonwealth’s consumer protection laws. I urge you to join me in protecting the identities of the residents of the Commonwealth. |
