MEMORANDUM

Posted: March 20, 2013 09:35 AM
From: Representative RoseMarie Swanger
To: All House members
Subject: Resolution re: Gas Prices and Domestic Oil Drilling

As you know, energy drives the U.S. economy and our foreign sources of crude oil are victim to supply disruptions and unstable word markets. And, our residents and business alike have been impacted by higher costs at the pump and increased overhead in energy expenses; further straining our fragile economy.

On the other hand, increased oil production in Canada’s oil sands and the Bakken Formation can replace crude imports from countries that do not share American values. In fact, if constructed, the Keystone XL and Gulf Coast Expansion projects could displace roughly 40 percent of the oil the U.S. currently imports from the Persian Gulf and Venezuela. Similarly, new natural gas production in shale formations across the nation offer additional opportunities for United States energy independence through this clean and affordable fuel.

Therefore, in the near future, I will be introducing a resolution urging the President and Congress to support the continued and increased production and use of American oil and natural gas and urging the U.S. Secretary of State to approve the keystone pipeline project.
