House of Representatives
Session of 2013 - 2014 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: January 15, 2013 10:00 AM
From: Representative Jaret Gibbons
To: All House members
Subject: Reintroduction - Adding Legislative Employees to the Whistleblower Law

Reintroduction of Legislation – Adding Legislative Employees to the Whistleblower Law

I will soon be reintroducing legislation amending Pennsylvania’s Whistleblower Law to include employees of the General Assembly and its agencies.

As you may know, the Whistleblower Law provides important employment protections to public employees who, in good faith, report instances of government wrongdoing or waste to an employer or appropriate authorities. However, the law is not currently applicable to legislative workers. My legislation seeks to make a simple amendment of the law to ensure equal coverage of legislative employees by including “the General Assembly and its agencies” under the definition of “public body.”

Please note that this legislation was unanimously approved by the House of Representatives during both the 2009-2010 and 2011-2012 legislative sessions.

I hope you will join me again in supporting this important measure.
