Subject: | Former House Bill 1484 - Municipalities Planning Code Amendment |
In the near future I plan to reintroduce legislation amending the Municipalities Planning Code (MPC). This legislation will amend the MPC requirements regarding meeting notifications involving the adoption of, or changes to, zoning ordinances, zoning maps, sub-division and land development ordinances and other similar ordinances. House Bill 1484 passed the House last session on May 7, 2012, by a vote of 190-0. This legislation would add a requirement to mail a notice of such a meeting to any person requesting a notice, provided the request was made in writing, and the necessary self-addressed stamped envelopes are provided. These proposed changes will be a significant benefit to absentee land and mineral owners, who do not subscribe to local papers, and may not otherwise become aware of proposed actions that could affect their property. The Pennsylvania Coal Association and the Pennsylvania State Association of Township Supervisors have been consulted in the drafting of this legislation and have expressed their support.
